The best player in college football is Trevor Lawrence. He was a 247Sports Composite No. 1 overall player in the 2018 class. The second-best player in the sport, Justin Fields, was the No. 2 overall player in the 247Sports Composite for the 2018 class. (Some in Columbus might stump for Fields at No. 1). Arguably the nation’s best running back thus far, Najee Harris, was the No. 2 overall player in the 2017 class.
You get the point.
Talent matters in college football, and 247Sports attempts to spotlight those players earlier than anyone. We get most of those those rankings right. Others, less so. But either way, we like to take a moment to check in on those formerly elite prospects from time to time.
That’s what we’re doing today, looking at how the top 5 players in each of the active recruiting classes have fared in their careers and how they’re preforming early in 2020 (rankings via the industry-generated 247Sports Composite). There are several future first-round draft picks on this list. There are also some potentially ginormous busts.
