SYRACUSE, NY — A workshop/seminar focused on the legalization of cannabis and the growing marijuana-related industry in New York has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict..
NY Cannabis Insider Live was to take place May 15 at The Egg in downtown Albany. The event will be moved to Syracuse and will be scheduled for a date this fall. Details will be announced on the event web site.
NY Cannabis Insider Live is a business- and entrepreneur-focused day of panel discussions, networking opportunities and more. It is presented by Advance Media New York, which operates syracuse.com, The Post-Standard and NYUP.com.
The agenda will include:
• Where we stand today: An update on the current state of New York State law and plans for regulation
• Local/municipal panel: What mayors, health departments, code enforcement officers need to know
• Getting into the business: What is the field like for small business operators? What are the opportunities for micro-licensing?
• Professional panel: The legal, employment, insurance and security issues needed for a cannabis business.
New York, which already has a legal medical marijuana program, is one of several states considering a plan to allow legal recreational cannabis use by adults. Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed legalizing cannabis this year and hoped it would be included in the current state budget, which took effect April 1.
But several issues, including how to incorporate social justice measures in the plan, have delayed action. State lawmakers are currently debating the issue and have until June, when their current session ends, to enact a law this year.
