NYC Congress Members To Lead Impeachment Charge In Senate – New York City, NY Patch

NEW YORK CITY — Two New York City congress members will lead the charge in the U.S. Senate to impeach what once was a New York City president.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed New York Reps. Jerry Nadler and Hakeem Jeffries impeachment managers, which means they’ll present Democrat’s case for ousting President Donald Trump from the White House.

“Today is an important day,” said Pelosi. “This is about the Constitution of the United States.”

Nadler and California Democrat Adam Schiff will lead the seven member team that includes Jeffries, Sylvia Garcia of Texas, Val Demings of Florida, Jason Crow of Colorado and Zoe Lofgren of California.

The managers are expected to walk articles of impeachment — slated to be voted on later Wednesday — across the Capitol to the Senate.

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is also closely linked to impeachment proceedings as Trump’s lawyer and a key player in the Trump Administration’s dealings with Ukraine.

The Senate could become an impeachment court as soon as Thursday, although significant proceedings are not likely to begin until after Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20.

Trump — who faces accusations that he abused power by pressuring Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, his Democratic rival in the upcoming presidential election — expressed his disdain on Twitter.

“Here we go again,” tweeted the president of the United States. “Another Con Job by the Do Nothing Democrats.”
