Dom Smith’s Baseball Generations inspires South LA youth – New York Daily News

Smith’s father, who founded a dog kennel, ran into struggles with the business when Dom was an adolescent, just as his baseball dreams were materializing. Smith relied on coaches to help keep his baseball dreams afloat, shuttling him around to showcases and tournaments. Not only that, but Major League Baseball’s Urban Youth Academy (now MLB Youth Academy) in Compton developed Smith and his friends as kids, giving them the kind of resources most kids in his part of town don’t have access to. Smith also says traveling for baseball “gave him a wider perspective on life,” forming him holistically beyond sports.
