ALBANY NY — Confused about when (or if) recreational marijuana will be legal in New York? Interested in starting up a cannabis-related business? Looking for info on the legal, security and licensing issues?
NY Cannabis Insider Live is a business- and entrepreneur-focused day of panel discussions, networking opportunities and more aimed at those interested in the cannabis business takes place May 15 at The Egg in downtown Albany.
The agenda includes:
• Where we stand today: An update on the current state of New York State law and plans for regulation
• Local/municipal panel: What mayors, health departments, code enforcement officers need to know
• Getting into the business: What is the field like for small business operators? What are the opportunities for micro-licensing?

Guest speakers include Carol Gabel, a small business consultant who has helped clients looking to get into the cannabis industry, and Barry Lefkowitz, an expert in government regulatory issues and a lobbyists involved in the creation and expansion of medical cannabis dispensaries in New Jersey.
While New York state currently has a medical marijuana program, efforts to legalize adult recreational use have hit some snags since Gov. Andrew Cuomo championed the idea earlier this year. Advocates are still hoping a bill legalizing the possession and sale of limited amounts of marijuana can be approved before the state Legislature adjourns for the year in June.
